All this, O king, Araunah gives to the king.” And Araunah said to the king, “May the LORD your God accept you.” But the king said to Araunah, “No, but I will buy it from you for a price. I will not offer burnt offerings to the LORD my God that cost me nothing.” So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver. And David built there an altar to the LORD and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. So the LORD responded to the plea for the land, and the plague was averted from Israel. 2 Samuel 24:22-25

8 Will man rob God? Yet you are robbing me. But you say, ‘How have we robbed you?’ In your tithes and contributions. 9 You are cursed with a curse, for you are robbing me, the whole nation of you. 10 Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the LORD of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need. 11 I will rebuke the devourer for you, so that it will not destroy the fruits of your soil, and your vine in the field shall not fail to bear, says the LORD of hosts.
Malachi 3:8–11 (ESV)
Designate the first %10 of your income as a tithe and give it as an offering of obedience to the Lord.

27 Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple. 28 For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it? 29 Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, 30 saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish.’ 31 Or what king, going out to encounter another king in war, will not sit down first and deliberate whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand? 32 And if not, while the other is yet a great way off, he sends a delegation and asks for terms of peace. 33 So therefore, any one of you who does not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple. Luke 14:27–33 (ESV)
Finish building your first monthly budget.
In long distance activities like hiking, running, or biking the first mile feels TERRIBLE. But you have to keep two things in mind. 1) You have to make some choices in the beginning in light of the distance. 2) You keep the goal in mind, knowing that if you just keep going, you’re going to get there. Your budget is the tool you need to see your goals a long way off. Use it to make some adjustments that may not feel good now, but will pay off big later.

Know well the condition of your flocks, and give attention to your herds.
Proverbs 27:23 (ESV)
Inventory your income and your assets. How much do you have coming in? How much do you have on hand?
Most people believe that their biggest money problem is that they don’t have enough of it. But that isn’t true. You’ll make the same mistakes with a lot as you do with a little. And the truth of the matter is, most everyone, has enough – they just don’t know how much is enough. In this stewardship tip
Pastor Brian challenges you to inventory your income and your assets. How much do you have coming in each month and how much stuff/material do you have on hand that you could turn into cash? If you don’t know what you’ve got, you don’t know where it’s going. Knowing your income is the first step in budgeting.
